Side by Side Photo Project Week 48 – In the Cement

My post for week 48 of the Side by Side photo project with Leslie. I saw this when we moved into our new place and it’s been a staple phrase in my vocabulary since moving to H St, I guess now we’re leaving I had to snap a pic of it to remember forever. Also I think it might be the start of “In the cement” another new photo project.

Side by Side Photo Project Week 46 – Corners

We went a walk with Diego and his new ball (and my fish eye) to the park…

I was attracted to the railings and the corners…

and took this next shot for week 46 of the Side by Side photo project with Leslie.

I’ve also decided to do an “in the corner” photo series and took this photo in the apartment hallway get my collection going. I mostly enjoy the fact that you can see down the two perpendicular corridors at the same time. I might have to invest in a real fish eye lens instead of the adapter that I have.

Side by Side Photo Project Week 44 – The Capitol

My post for week 44 of the Side by Side photo project with Leslie. More playing around with my tripod and long exposures this time of the iconic Capitol building from my rooftop. I just played with the levels to boost the whiter than whiteness of the capitol dome. Not as exciting as the portrait version but can’t win them all.

Side by Side Photo Project Week 38 – Overhead Wires

My post for week 38 of the Side by Side photo project with Leslie. There is a law in DC that bans overhead wires on the streets but there is currently a battle to try and overrule this law to allow streetcars to be introduced into the city and run on overhead wires. They have built several tracks in the city but currently don’t have permission to run the trains with overhead wires *sigh* I saw these in an alley this weekend and snapped this pic, it’s a rare site in DC, and something you don’t really notice the lack of until you walk down the alleyways where they are allowed.

Side by Side Photo Project Week 31 – H St Bridge

My post for week 31 of the Side by Side photo project with Leslie. This is the view from the rooftop of my building looking east down H St towards downtown DC. You can also see the Washington Monument to the top left of the photo. I’ve wanted to take this for a while to give it as a gift to a friend so now that I’ve got a tripod I was finally able to capture it. Not super happy with it but it’s a good intro into some long exposures. I’d like a few more cars for light trails, but it just wasn’t happening.

Side by Side Photo Project – Week 24

My post for week 24 of the Side by Side photo project with Leslie. Not very exciting this week, I took this photo a wee while ago while there was still some snow around. I snapped though the security fence of this old building in my neighbourhood that I’m dying to get into and have a wee photo shoot. I just need some anorexic models in skinny jeans for the ultimate urban hipster photo shoot.

Side by Side Photo Project – Week 23

My post for week 23 of the Side by Side photo project with Leslie. I was waiting for the bus under the Chinatown arch and happened to have my camera with me so dragons it is! Apparently, it’s the largest single such span archway in the world.

Side by Side Photo Project – Week 22

My post for week 22 of the Side by Side photo project with Leslie. I took this photo from the rooftop of my apartment building, this is the intersection of H St NE and 3rd St NE, not really on the tourist route, hence the empty bus. In the top left hand corner, you can see the liquor store I frequent. Oh and I did a tilt-shift effect for that toy/model effect.

Take the stairs

Everyday I walk up these stairs at New York Ave metro stop. One day after the snow storm, I had to wait 20 mins for a train and found myself leaning on a railing looking down at the stairs. I immediately noticed the contrast of the moving escalator and the normal stairs and wanted to capture that in a photo. So today on my way out and about, I remembered my camera and took these pics…

so that’s all for today, tomorrow there will be a new Side by Side photo to watch out for.
